Ayo Edebiri + Don Cheadle + a multi-award-winning play = an all-but-proven Broadway hit. David Auburn’s Proof, a story of love, legacy, and logic, returns to NYC for the first time since its Tony- and Pulitzer-winning premiere more than 20 years ago.
When a groundbreaking math proof emerges in the files of recently deceased, troubled mathematician Robert (Cheadle), his brilliant daughter Catherine (Edebiri) confronts fierce debate over the proof’s true authorship. But she also contends with the power of her dad’s legacy, the cost of proving herself, and her fear of inheriting more than just his smarts.
The Broadway debuts of Edebiri and Cheadle, starring with The Handmaid’s Tale Emmy winner Samira Wiley and Hamilton alum Jin Ha, all add up to a must-see event. Do the math, and get Proof tickets now.

Proof was a groundbreaking play when it premiered 25 years ago, and now it is back on Broadway for the first time, produced by Mike Bosner and director Thomas Kail and running for a strictly limited engagement. The play has a storied history, going on to be adapted into a Hollywood film in 2005 starring Anthony Hopkins and Gwyneth Paltrow.
While the play's title and content refer to a mathematical proof, the play's more universal themes touch on father-daughter relationships, sisterhood, and society's capacity to believe in intelligent, autonomous women. Catherine is not believed when she confesses to having fashioned a breakthrough proof. Trying to convince her older sister and one of her father's last students, she must also trust herself as her grasp on reality shifts. A taut, thrilling, and smart drama, Proof became one of the most popularly produced plays in America thanks to its strong roles, small cast, and many accolades.
