About KENREX

Get Kenrex tickets on TodayTix to see this thrilling true crime drama that comes to New York City hot off of its rave run in London. Kenrex plays for eleven weeks only at the Lucille Lortel Theatre downtown and brings with it its acclaimed team from across the pond. Tracing the life and crimes of a small-town American Ken McElroy, Kenrex off Broadway is a riveting examination of one man's life and impact.

Kenrex in New York debuts after three sold-out runs across London — at the Southwark Playhouse Borough, Sheffield Theatre, and, most recently, The Other Palace. The play, performed by Jack Holden who brings over 30 characters to life, is an acute examination of the line between justice served and justice taken.

In a five-star review, the Sunday Times called the play “a masterclass in acting and storytelling. It’s an intensely visual experience, taking it somewhere morally complex and surprisingly moving.”

More information about KENREX

Ken McElroy, born in 1934 and dying in 1981, was an American criminal and attempted murderer from Skidmore, Missouri. He was accused, over the course of his life, of dozens of crimes, including child molestation, statutory rape, and cattle rustling.

An unlikely protagonist, Ken comes to life in vivid and compelling ways in this new play by Olivier Award nominee Jack Holden and Ed Stambollouian. Holden also stars, and Stambollouian directs, in a production that also features an original score performed live by John Patrick Elliott.

“As much as UK audiences have responded to this play, at its core this is a deeply American story,” said Holden and Stambollouian in a statement. “We are thrilled for this chance to present it to American audiences.”

Holden delivers “an astonishing performance” per The Guardian in a show that highlights Americans' appetite for true crime, long a fixture of podcasts and miniseries but now seen live on stage.
