The Nutcracker Rouge show retains the same Nutcracker plot we all know and love. A girl named Clara receives a nutcracker toy for Christmas, which turns into a handsome prince, defeats a mouse king, and whisks Clara away on a sugary journey through the Land of Sweets.
The story is most often performed as a ballet, and there are some ballet elements in Nutcracker Rouge, too. However, the story also incorporates burlesque dance, circus, and opera to create a sultry spectacle. Themed drinks and treats are available for purchase and are included with some ticket types. If your ticket includes snacks and drinks, they'll be presented to you at different points throughout the show in various ways — cast members may deliver them to you, or they may drop down in front of you from above.
Nutcracker Rouge off Broadway is arguably the company's most famous show; Company XIV has performed Nutcracker Rouge in New York since 2013, and it earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for Unique Theatrical Experience that year.

What to watch for
- In the classic Nutcracker story and in Nutcracker Rouge, the dances performed in the Land of Sweets pay homage to multiple world cultures. The tea dance is inspired by Chinese movement styles, the candy cane dance by Russian styles, and the chocolate dance by Spanish styles.
- The performers interact with the audience at Company XIV's shows, and also act as the venue's bartenders and waitstaff.
- Company XIV founder Austin McCormick attended the Juilliard School and The Conservatory of Baroque Dance, thus creating all the company's shows in a baroque style.
- The "baroque" style of Nutcracker Rouge is based on the 17th-century baroque art movement centered on grandeur and luxury. Opera and ballet, which are often part of Company XIV’s shows, also originated during this period.
- In 2022, Company XIV also produced Seven Sins, based on the story of Adam and Eve, and Cocktail Magique, a show that pairs libations with illusions.
